Smile California Summer 08

hey, i know its a long time since you posted that but i thought i'd reply anyway. I am also an Irish student going to California this summer. From what I've heard the place to be is Santa Barbara. Everyone stays in Isla Vista which is near the beach and a short bus journey away from where all the jobs are. Thats where me and my friend have decided to go. Im just wondering is that what you and your friends have heard? And where have you decided to go? And also how did you go about finding accomodation? Thanks!

The Irish students that visit America do have visas. Its called a J1 work and travel visa. It allows us to work and live in America for up to 6 months I think.

How nice. Good luck finding your spot of heaven for the summer. Who is your J program sponsor? I was under the impression they helped with lodging info.

Go to San Diego b/c A LOT of irish kids do every summer. I live in Pacific Beach and every summer at least 5,000-8,000 young college kids from Ireland summer in this community, usually cramming at least 4-6 to a room and sleeping on air mattresses. There are so many irish people here over the summer it's ridiculous, every summer i go to a least a few parties where it's almost all Irish people. It seems a lot work in the hospitality industry, especially at SeaWorld. It's the warmest beach city in CA you will find and the water is warmer than Santa Barbara and Orange County.
