Actually, the worst earthquakes in American history did not happen in California!!!

I did not mean to be flippant in my reply. It's just that I've been hearing dire warnings of massive tremors along the San Andreas all my live - 74 years.

They will never be able to forecast the darned things so just prepare yourself now.

Lots of canned goods. Lots of drinking water. All stored in an earthquake-safe location.

Sometimes you need to be that way to get the point across. Actually the New Madrid was the largest in the lower 48. the largest quake in the US as a whole was the 1964 Alaska quake which was something like a 9.2. Another area at risk for a larger quake than CA will get is the Pacific Northwest which is next to a subduction zone almost identical to the one in Indonesia.
