Most seasonal workers share housing. It is only across the pass for me but the pass is closed in winter. So less than 100 miles as the bird flies but several hundred mile drive.

I have lots of friends who are river guides in the summer, and work ski resorts in the winter. In the summer, they are tenting at the river camps; in the winter, there are LOTS of them sharing lodging because rents are too high.

If I were you, I'd inquire at the places you might work at as to where their seasonal workers generally live.

Working and living in Mammoth is similar to any other ski town, low pay, high COL. My buddies did it 15 years ago, had too much fun, and made no money. Actually they drank it away which isn't hard at minimum wage.
