California-Is it worth it?
Young couple from MN, considering a move to Sacramento. I have travelled all over the country and I love California. Never ever considered moving there mainly because of the high cost of housing but we are seriously thinking about it. My question is: Is California worth it even with the relatively high cost of housing? Also, what are the reasons for so many people moving out of CA? I would love to read your thoughts! Thanks!

Well the weather forecast is for blue skies with temps near 70 F. How is the weather in MN?

If you're fine spending 50% of your gross income on very mediocre housing, come on over.

Current temp here is 17 F. Wind chill is 0 F. I stepped outside for a few minutes and I could not believe how cold it is.

Is it worth it?
Well, i've lived in cali all my life but I have a desire for a big, beautiful home and I don't want to live in an area of high crime-I currently live in Richmond and previously lived in Oakland, I still love Oakland and definitely love Cali but I'm ready to explore other options-considering North Carolina.
I love the diversity and good weather-my hope is that Cali is not the only place like that in the country...also, traffic has gotten out of control...these are reasons why I'm considering leaving my beloved state

You will miss CA. NC does not even compare to CA, the weather is hot and humid, lots of rednecks and the overall mentality is very backwards. I have been to CA many times and I always get this feeling that when I am in CA, it is almost like you are in a "different world". Everytime I have been to CA, be LA, San Diego, San Fran or OC, there was always something to do or something going on. Here in Minnesota, we spend half of our year indoors, it is 16 F outside right now..0F wind chill. I don't see how someone from CA could adapt to any other place, I am sure some do but I think you have it good there

It is ridiculously clear and evident that you are going to run into a LOT of people who STRONGLY dislike California who have left it themselves, and they are going to have a lot of biased opinions. It is almost guaranteed that when you ask a question like this on the public CA forum (aside from SF forums), you're going to get nothing but negative responses.
If you like it, go. The housing market is always going to fluctuate as it always does. If you take to heart everything you hear here, you'll never move to California.

I lived in Southern California for 45 years. Moved to Colorado in between Denver and Colorado Springs. The weather here is just as sunny, if not sunnier. From May to November the weather is better (not hot). From December to April it is colder but dry and sunny. Since it is so dry it does not feel cold. The snow melts within a day or two. Very cheerful. Four seasons even though you can do outdoor activities (cycling, golf, etc.) almost all year. In February it can snow one day and it is in the 50s and 60s the next day. A week or so ago it was cold, it was 39F and sunny and I was sweating on my deck in shorts.
Colorado weather is very different from gray, cloudy, depressing, midwest and east coast weather.

I love it in California-moved back here after living in New York. Before that I lived abroad in several countries for many years.
And let me tell you,
I really loved all the places that I lived in, but this place just takes the cake imo. I wouldnt live anywhere else at this point in my life.
But then, Im moving back to Sao Paulo next year so I guess Id better enjoy my life in the Bay Area while I can!
