Planning a business trip to San Fran and LA. Flying to San Fran and prefer to drive down to LA.

What should I plan for in terms of driving time during the week.

If you take the 5 South (which is not the scenic route) about 5 1/2 hours, if you only stop once for gas, and if you go mid-day or on the weekend, when there is less traffic.

Yes, Sunday mornings [early departure by 6 or 7 at the latest] has been a pretty ideal time in our experience, traffic wise.

5.5-7 hours. Depends on when you leave, where in LA, and how bad traffic is

101 takes a little longer (about 1 to 1 1/2 hrs), but sure is a nicer drive. If you take the 5 make sure your ac is on max 10 miles North of 152 when you go by Harris ranch, or the smell will linger a while.

Mythbusters tested this, and it turned out flying to LA and renting a car isn't all that much faster than just driving. It took about 5.5 hrs.

101 for the win
If the drive south must be done, at least make it an enjoyable one (anybody wanna compare the exhilaration of driving through Harris Ranch to that of Pismo Beach?).
