We all know that gang activity is a growing concern that isn't just limited to California. Many even say that it doesn't affect them at all because they can afford to live in "the part of town without gangs." But what do you think gang related activity will be like 5-15 years down the road, and what will its impact be on quality of life?

I think it will be about the same and I don't think it will affect me.

There was a gang murder recently in downtown Santa Barbara (13-14 year olds involved) during the middle of the day, on the main street right in front of Saks Fifth Avenue. It affects everyone. It happens all the time here in this physically beautiful city with lots of problems, but this one got the media attention because of where it happened.

In response to El Capitan: Eventually we will become a society of
select communities that will either have the resources to live in a
cost prohibitive neighborhood where our money will buy good police
services and bolstered by additional "private patrols". And those who
cannot live like the other side of the fence will be the ones left to fend for
themselves. Harsh as this may sound it will be a reality as it is here in the
San Francisco bay area where numerous communities ae insulated from the
trash that tends to destroy many families and communities. Politicians
who receive the most votes in the upper crust of most communities will
only cater and protect those communities with bolstered police patrols.
In 5-15 years this will be the norm of living in our american society. Harsh
but true.

If your assessment becomes a reality then be prepared for chaos and anarchy in the streets. There are more HAVE NOTS than HAVES.

It's always been that way, and except for a few illusionary and fleeting periods of history, the HAVES have always been in control.

Order is maintained by the HAVES knowing just how many crumbs to throw to the HAVE NOTS to keep them dependent and dissatisfied, but not enough to let them think about anything other than their immediate survival. If the HAVE NOTS become well fed, healthy, and educated, they tend to question their situation, rebel against the HAVES and upset the social order.

But on the other hand, if the HAVES become too greedy and self involved and don't throw enough crumbs, the HAVE NOTS will become desperate. Rebellion under those conditions tends to be more violent and destructive to the social fabric.

When leaders arise from the HAVE NOTS, their ideals are easily subverted to serve the interests of the HAVES by the use of powerful mind control techniques such as politics and religion.

The original post was specifically about gangbangers, not the broad issue of the socio-economic class system.

Gangs probably have a future, however gang members don't have a future. They are losers who have nothing going for them. The only hope is that they will kill each other off faster than they can recruit new members.

I know this sounds cruel, but why should I care about gangbangers when gang members don't care about themselves and their future? I'm tired of seeing grieving parents of the victims or the suspects on TV saying 'what a good boy he was'. Where were the parents when they were raising these kids? (I can see the hate mail coming already!)
