Once again, California shows why it leads the nation in lunacy. If this bill passes, the cult of nannyism takes another step forward toward government control of our lives. Your soda pop, according to the twisted logic behind this nonsense, is very dangerous, and all mighty Big Government must protect it's citizens from this evil.

So you cry about a government keeping business in check when public health is at stake....

Nobody is stopping you from pounding a carton of C&H right now, so please do. Repeat at least once a day.

I remember reading "Sugar Blues" (one of the many "1st World Problems" type books that seemed to come out all of the sudden starting during the mid to late 1970s). Sure there is something to that point of view however, as with most of these non problems it always ends up being an excuse for Big Brother to reach out and grab you by the shorties from the Telescreen.

WHO IS JOHN GALT?

(mixed pop cultural references were intentional and highly appropriate)

It's amazing that there are people who see "Big Brother" in the printing of a dietary warning label on cans and bottles, not the companies who keep people fat, apathetic and easily moulded into an unwitting public lobby.

How has life turned upside-down for those poor souls that have to pay ten cents for plastic bags at the grocery store now? ARE THEY ALL DEAD YET?

Plastic bags? I haven't seen those in a year. They've been banned in our area, and all we have now are these flimsy paper bags that can hold at most 1 gallon of milk before they rip apart.

Yea, and the crazy thing is...the same behind the scenes in charge folks pushed the agenda of processed, canned and convenient foods-cigarettes and baby formula are now the domain of 3rd world markets, since western countries largely wised up. Profits are greater there with a growing market. I don't understand this idea that 'we should be able to poison ourselves'...True, the government dictating is not my desired reality, either. At the same time, populace has been dumbed down and programmed over decades-to this current debacle that is wreaking havoc medically, educationally and in terms of civic mindedness. Yes, fast food, throw away culture impacts learning, health and the idea that we should give a sh*t about anyone or anything.

But people, IMO, need not pit themselves against others: 'oh the health people, organic sucks'. Like they are some kind of rebel. It's divide and conquer political tactics at work here and that attitude just feeds right into it. At the same time, the self righteous attitude that we should pay now for something (ie, bags) b/c we are all horrid polluters...Something that was introduced into our system to help create dependency on external sources, to grow the corporate consumer machine. Both attitudes are two sides of the same coin and don't particularly address the underlying factors.

It's not really different than warning labels on cigarettes or alcohol, right? And yes, those kind of drinks are just as detrimental. We are now all arguing about non foods in our society. It's come to this. The fact that we have to advocate for eating ACTUAL food, is so bizarre to me. That we need to put labels b/c our 'food' is not actually food but synthetic chemicals, is very surreal. More surreal is the idea that people who do not wish to partake in this 'norm' are considered either freaks or pretentious. Also, do we learn nothing from history? Is it far fetched to believe that we were sold a bill and these detrimental items were introduced for nefarious reasons? Or that science has evolved and discovered 'hey, those are not such a good idea'?

Personally, I loved living in MT back in the day, when there was no freeway speed limit. But, when you have a state with less than 1 million people, vast, and full of people with common sense, you don't really need these kinds of laws. Check out history-roman empire, etc! When cities and populations are dense, all living together, you need over the top strategies just to hold it all together. Decentralization doesn't cut it, apparently. Also, when people are conditioned to not think, well, we get people arguing on either side of this equation, simply feeding the 'divide and conquer' strategy. Controlled opposition doesn't really lead anywhere new....IMHO.

It's about time! But once they do that, they'll have to put similar labels on cookies and other desserts. Excess consumption of sweets also causes cardiovascular disease, and according to some research, contributes to the development of cataracts.
