Default Antioch, California Good & Bad Areas

Hi,

I am considering relocating to Antioch from Hayward and I need a bit of information about the area. I have heard that crime has recently shot up in the area but that there are still nice parts. I will be renting an apartment. Can someone please give me info on what areas I should avoid. I thought I had found a nice apartment complex until I pulled up an article online about a murder that occurred near there. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Default About Antioch

Hi there,

There are always pros and cons whenever you move into a smaller community. Yes the traffic on highway 4 is pretty bad on any given day. However, I have lived in Antioch for 4 years now and used to live in San Francisco since I was born. I work in SF and so does my husband. We normally wake up @ 5 am to get to SF by 7 am. We've been doing this on a daily basis and what has helped us is that we always have someone commute with us so that we can go through the carpool lane at the Bay Bridge. Many people live in Antioch and commute to Oakland, SF and other Bay area citiies. If you leave your house by 5:30 am no later than 5:45 and have a carpool buddy, I can guarantee you will be at SF by 7:am. give or take 5 to 10 minutes. The city is getting larger and therefore, so will the crime. As in any large community. What also happens is that people who come to visit Antioch or know someone from Antioch come out to wreak havoc just because they feel it is a small town and they can get away with it. Yes the housing is cheaper but you will get a bigger home by far bigger than anything you will see in any other East Bay city. I have been very fortunate to have wonderful neighbors who look out for my children and myself and we do the same vice versa. I have not had to get after school daycare since I moved to Antioch because my neighbor and I make sure we back each other up when we have to work. The number factor that I am not happy 100% about in Antioch is the Mello Roos. It seems that it is a never ending struggle to keep the board from not raising it or making sure that they apply the monies received to the current Mello Roos. Personally, I wish that the State would step in and do an inventory audit to make sure the funds are being distributed properly. That's all I have to say for now.

Does anyone know the exact boundries of the Mello Roos district? Is it assessed on all property in Antioch? My husband and I are house hunting in Antioch.
