Eh, Howard Huges built all his hotels in Las Vegas. He never lived to see that place become beach front. My prediction for your future, vfrpilot, is that you won't see your property in AZ become an ocean Mecca either. But good luck to you anyway.

When people are afraid they can be controlled.

Think about this logically. No man can predict the future.

California will suffer a huge earthquake some day. A comet will probably collide with the earth some day. The sun will eventually burn out some day. Some day a hurricane will swing by and destroy another city.

Some day you will die. Something a lot of people don't understand. Dont go crazy and lock yourself in a room. Stock up on good memories before it happens.

Bottom line, if you live in California or anywhere along the coast in North America, be prepared for earthquakes and tidal waves. Don't obsess about them, but be aware that they do happen from time to time, albeit the "time to time" could be tens or hundreds of years between events. And they could happen at any time, just like car crashes on the freeway -- a much bigger threat to personal safety than theories about "the big one" and "end of the world" predictions. Living in CA, always keep a pair of sturdy shoes close by.
I think you mean Tsunamis, not tidal waves.

Well, you are going to have a long drive to the beach for a looooooong time!
But if you can wait about 5 million years when the San Andreas fault separates the Pacific plate from the North American plate, then you'll be ready. But you will have to live on the edge of the North American plate to be near the ocean... a city like Palmdale, Victorville or Yucca Valley should do.

Einsteins: You may wanna do a little research. The Andreas Fault (N. American plate) of which you speak is a North/South lateral rift. If anything, LA would be moving closer to San Fran.

-it's not going to "fall into the ocean"

-and tsunami's ARE possible, but, the accrediting fault would have to be offshore

Some of you sound like my great-grandmother talking about "California falling into the ocean!'"

There are so many "Chicken Littles" here its amazing. To think that people actually believe that the world will end in 2012 is amazing.
