Hi,
I am an Irish student and considering travelling to California in Summer 2008 on a J1 visa with my boyfriend. Currently we are very undecided on where to go as each place gets mixed reviews. We were recommended Santa Barbara but I am still not sure. We are looking for a place that is easy to get to and is also close to famous places eg. Laguna, Beverly Hills etc so we can travel there? Can anyone reccomend a place to stay???

Is this purely for touring and sightseeing?
Will you be renting a car or have a car?
How do you envision lodging? Renting a house or apartment? For what time frame?
What would your monthly budget be?
Have you considered hostels?

Wee need more specifics.
