Wrong. A significant portion of the population growth in CA, and elsewhere in the US, has come from Eastern Europe. Sacramento, for example, didn't used to have a Russian community. Now it has a thriving one, with restaurants and grocery venues catering to that crowd. They tend to vote conservative, too.

More revenue for the state?
Hell, just run a more efficient government. If 38 million people ain't enough to feed the coffers, 38 million more ain't gonna help.

More revenue for existing business?
Hell, if any business needs more customers than can be found from a pool of 38 million, it deserves to fold.

Etc.

What good can more people bring that isn't here already?
Who said CA needs more growth? I don't recall any posts here about deregulation to facilitate growth.

The Bay Area and SoCal can't handle more growth, imo. Transportation gridlock has already set in. Unless major investment is made in new public transport systems, more growth will only exacerbate existing problems.

That is whats happening. LA and SF are redeveloping rapidly, gaining higher density projects. The difference between the projects of today vs the higher density of the past (small houses for apartments) is that the new developments are much higher quality and are coupled with new transit. Compare the age of those cities vs east coast cities they certainly are not now what they will be in the future.

Ruth. Apparently we aren't reading the same threads, because this california forum is LOADED with cries for deregulation to foster growth. Posters cry loudly for real estate development and business development.

And you are entirely correct: The Bay Area and SoCal can't handle more growth.
That's me point precisely.

This is entirely correct, Autumn. Kudos for a 100% assessment. Happy to have provided you with some mirth to mitigate your fears over Arabs and soil liquefaction. Enjoy!
