Default Eureka vs. Arcata High Schools?

I will be moving to the Eureka/Arcata area in 2008 and my daughter will be entering into 9th grade. Which schools are the best in your opinion. Do you know of any links that I can reasearch. Any performing arts schools? What are the school ratings compared to the rest of California and the nation?

Thanks so much for any info. and assistance.

I don't know about high schools but the University at Arcata is available for many uses. If you can afford to live in Arcata, it's a much nicer place than Eureka. Eureka is more a place for cheap housing and shopping.

If you have a high income you might want to look into Trinidad, and do the commute.

I have a slightly different take, and of course I don't know what your daughter's needs are, but generally Arcata High and McKinleyville High seem to have a slightly better rep than Eureka High (and I'm a Logger!- Eureka alum) There are scores for all the schools - and there are many school districts here. You might contact the Humboldt County Office of Education and ask them to send or email you the latest STARZ scores, or they may have them online.. Arcata does have some nice areas, also some slums. Anything in Arcata is $20K more just because of being near the university. Lots of minor crime and transients in both towns, the further you are from the freeway the better. There are areas in south Eureka (Cutten) and East Eureka which are excellent. The local Times-Standard is online and the North Coast Journal, weekly, is likewise online and will give you a flavor of the area. There is also a small Catholic prep school in Eureka and dozens of charters schools, some good some not so. Feel free to PM me if I can help further.
