Talking Interested in Susanville, CA/Lassen Co-any info??

I'm looking for more information on Susanville as a potential place to live. Will be moving from southern ORegon probably in spring, maybe summer, 2008 if I can sell my house. From info I've gathered, appears to be beautiful wooded area with decent climate which are two of my must haves for living.

My main concerns are housing affordability and jobs. With housing costs plummeting, I am guessing I won't get much for my house in Grants Pass,OR and would need to buy house at $170,000 or less (preferably $150,000>) when I move. House can be very small with 2 Br or 1 Br and den, mfg or house; prefer 2+ acres, but could even live in town on large lot if area is QUIET. Have a BA degree.Have worked as Employment Counselor, but have skill sets to do any customer service, some HR work, basic clerical, working with animals, etc.etc. I know its a Prison town and have worked as Community Corrections Counselor here in a Day Reporting program, but not sure I want to go back to that. Basically, I am looking for a less stressful working environment in a new town that I can live out my days in.

Is there an Employment dept in town? How often do jobs come open at medical facilities? Community college? County for clerical? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Right now jobs are pretty limited. The employment dept is: Lassen Career Network, 530-257-7512.

Lassen Family Services was hiring recently. They run the programs for abused women and commuity outreach issues. Their number is 530-257-4599. Decent jobs with the county are not open very often. But once you are a temp with the county, its much easier to snag a full time spot when it comes open. The prisons are always looking for clerical staff. Lassen Career Network can give you all the info on the state clerical jobs.

As for houses, the prices are dropping ALOT. Some of the homes on the market have been there for months with little to no showings at all. CHeck out realtor.com for the best listing of local areas. As for Susanville being wooded, just parts of it are. Susanville is where the high desert meets the mountians. The town is at the start of the Honey Lake Valley, which is basically flat and very few trees. When looking for homes in the pines, look at homes in Lake Forest (4 miles outside of town) , on the pine side of Janesville (the realtor will know what you mean when saying that), near the golf course, and just outside town on highway 36.

Good luck. PM me if you need more info.

Default Relocating to Susanville, looking for housing

I'm not sure where we my post this information to, so trying to share this around.

We are a stable, mature Native American couple relocating to the Susanville area for employment. We don't drink or use drugs, very responsible, spiritual people and care for your property like our own. Looking for a small one or two bedroom cottage type home up to $600 a month. No pets or smoking. Looking for something about the first of January.

Would love to have a backyard area for garden and cultural activities.
Serious inquiries only. thank you.
