I just saw this on ABC7....what? this week?

I flew up and back down from Seattle for a meeting a few days ago-hope we didn't cross paths with them.

Air Force jets scrambled this week as Russian bombers fly within 50 miles of U.S. coast | AL.com

Quote:
Russian bombers flew within 50 miles of the California coast this week, triggering U.S. Air defense systems and scrambling jets, the North American Aerospace Defense Command confirmed...

...A total of four Russian strategic bombers were apparently conducting practice bombing runs near Alaska, NORAD said. Two of the planes, both Tu-95 Bear H aircraft, came within 50 miles of the California coast.

Navy Capt. Jeff Davis told the Free Beacon the incursion began Monday around 4:30 p.m. Pacific time. The planes were picked up on radar as they approached the U.S. air defense zone near the western Aleutian islands. Two U.S. Air Force F-22 jets were scrambled and interception the bombers over the Aleutians.

Two the planes turned around while the remaining pair flew southeast into the U.S. northern air defense zone off the coast of northern California. Two U.S. F-15 jets were then deployed and intercepted the bombers. The Russian planes then turned around and headed west.

Not to worry. This sort of thing went on for decades during the Cold War, although do not recall any Soviet aircraft coming that close. Had they done so back then, they would have been splashed. Putin is flexing his muscles, probing and testing. His goal is to restore the old glory and power of the Soviet Union. That means that soon he will have to be confronted and checked.

This is just theatre. The new war to control bodies, minds, spirits, resources and whole economies - is in cyberspace.

A Kh-55 with a 75KT war head could really ruin your day.

There is currently no effective defense.

Although I understand we are getting closer to having one.

Ugh. Do you know how were they able to get that close in the first place? I mean, didn't we see them coming?

Earlier this week, Obama was flying jets around on the Russian border, in the Baltic Countries. The Russians protested, but Obama carried them out anyway. I think this is just Russia putting Obama on notice that they're going to push back.

You and your cyberspace wars...

If that were true, why would anybody be practicing with planes and bombs?
