Lets see:

San Diego
Orange
Los Angeles
Ventura
Santa Barbara
Imperial
Riverside
San Bernardino
San Francisco
Alameda

More than I thought but not really a dent in all of them.

I've not been to any of the northeast ones north of Nevada CO and none of the coast counties north of Sonoma. Beyond that, I have driven though or stopped in or spent a night in all others.

As far a CA counties go, I've visited at least 45-50 and lived in five from south to north.
He was probably too busy admitting the additional 8 states.

I think I have been in most of all of the counties with the exception of Modoc, Lassen, Butte, and Yuba.

After looking at the map I would estimate close to 20 but I am not really sure.

At least 29(perhaps more) - in all parts of the state.

Did you get off the train?

This would be another interesting question.

How many think that actual feet on the ground(as opposed to wheeled transit) is the determining factor of having been in a county, city, or state?

My preferred form of wheeled transit involves putting my feet on the ground every so often. So I've definitely had feet on the ground in every county in CA.

In fact, since I bought my current motorcycle in 2007, I've used it to visit every county except Imperial. Which I visited on an earlier motorcycle.

I like riding my motorcycle around California.

No, did not get off the train (that I recall), but may have switched cars and seen the ground moving below my feet. Now you're making more work for me.

Wheeled transit works. A lot of people don't count layovers or plane changes, however, say I changed planes in Minneapolis this morning, and had breakfast there at a McDonald's in the airport. Then I get home and a friend asks, "where did you have breakfast this morning?", my response would be Minneapolis of course, so how could I not have been there if I ate something there? Or visited the bathroom there?

I mean do we count stopping for gas as having been somewhere? What if you don't get out of the car, and somebody else pumps the gas? Rest area?

I once traversed Eastern Tulare County, from Kernville to Inyokern, via back roads. I don't think I got out of the car. Did I not actually visit Tulare County on that trip, or did all of that beautiful mountain country only exist in my mind? I know I've gotten gas in Tipton, so I know I've visited Tulare County, or MAYBE NOT by you're definition?

I once changed planes at the Cincinnati airport, and that was the only time I've ever physically been within the state of Kentucky. But I still don't count Kentucky among the 47 states I've visited. Seems wrong somehow.

edit - I mean the Commonwealth of Kentucky, of course.
