Some post just reminded me, there is also Autotrader .com.

I just went to the AAA, there are two forms, one is an inspection that can be done at the AAA office or DMV, basically verifying the VIN.

About the new owner switching registration. Is this something we go with them to do? I never knew AAA did that. Seems very non-formal?

Anyone think to many red flags will go up on selling an out of state car? We can show our transaction when we got it here and all.

And yes, we hear about the 50 state things and it is for CA also so we are good there.

Thanks!

Doesn't sound like a very good plan. Why not rent a car for two months?

I wouldn't count on getting $8,500 for your van. You're going to have LA plates which would be a hassle for a buyer in CA. In addition people will know you're desperate to unload it because you're leaving CA. So they will lowball you.

You're only looking at it from your side. Why would someone in a private sale want to buy a van driven across the country from LA, when they can buy a used van that is already registered and CA complaint?

Even if renting the car even a $1,000 more it would be worth it, than having this hassle to deal with. And many car rental companies like Avis have long term deals when you rent for a month or more.
