Did she pay it? Can she go to the court and get proof?

Go to court and ask.

Where do you live where they still issue fix it's?

The municipalities are all so broke that they got the mobbed up legislature to issue new laws regarding citations, including the tacking on of administrative fees on top of the outrageous new fines themselves. Plus if you dont pay before a certain, usually short, time period, the fine goes up dramatically.

I'm just surprised to learn that somewhere in California there is still such a thing as a fix it ticket.

Throwing away a signed ticket was the worst thing to do in this case. That was your best proof. A receipt could be for any number of makes of cars, so not any solid proof.

Have the money ready, plead your case, cross your fingers the the judge is feeling generous. They could possibly reduce the fine.

Good luck.

They really go bonkers as far as interest-almost predatory if you ask me.

There oughta be a law that keeps those kinds of fines from accruing interest. The notion of that irks me and Ive never had anything like that happen to me-so I can imagine the helplessness of those that are actually going through it. Ugh.

Go to the traffic courthouse, and have the clerk look up your ticket, and print out a copy. Maybe you can locate the officer and ask him what happened, or maybe the clerk can tell you, it may be on the record. You might be able to get the officer to show up on your court date, but you'll have to talk to him first, if you can track him down.

There is no way the officer would have told her she doesn't have to do anything other than get a signature from a cop. She might have heard that, but there's no way he would have told her she didn't need to then do anything with the signed ticket.

That's just so...there's no common sense in that.

And then to get you to post to an internet forum asking what to do next, instead of calling the clerk's office to find out what to do is....there's no common sense in that. Either.

Request a hearing from the DMV.

I agree, call DMV.

FYI, it's CNA class not 'c and a'
