California vs. Florida Beaches
I personally prefer the white sandy beaches of south Florida to the brown sandy beaches of Southern California. I've never had to wear a wet in Florida either!
I'm curious to see if any fellow Californians have been to Florida and if so, what is your opinion on the beaches versus Southern California's?

Florida's beaches are great, it's the part that's not on the beach I'm not so crazy about.

I lived in Orlando and Tampa, visited the beaches often.
There are + and - for each coast, but I think California trumps FL by far.
Florida; Swimming in 85-90 degree water when it's 90-95 degrees outside with 80-90% humidity feels gross. You get out of the water which doesn't cool you off and cannot even dry off completely b/c it's so humid IMO.
Florida Beaches -
Pros- - Nice warm water
- No Rocks
- Very little seaweed
- Lot's of birds
Cons- - Sand is blistering hot.
- The heat+humidity in the summer
- The people on the beach
- Riptide
- Small waves for water sports.
- Sharks everywhere.
- Driving on the beach, nasty.
- Bugs...critters on the beaches.
California:
Pros - - Great waves
- Awesome wind for sail sports.
- Change of Terrain for scenic value (cliffs, rocks, bluffs)
- Beach-side is more preserved than Florida's hotel packed beaches.
- Nicer beach-side facilities than Florida (bathrooms, boardwalks, eats)
- Nicer piers.
- Cold water ocean makes living next to the beach very nice.
- Camping on the beach (too hot in Florida to camp)
- Water is clearer.
Cons- - Cold water - Wet Suit check..
- Seaweed wash up.
- Sand is hardpacked and darker than FL.
- Traffic getting there.
- Parking at the beach when you get there.
This is my eval after living in both, I would take California hands down.
However, my mother prefers the calm warm beaches in Florida.

i like the ca beaches and floridas water
here in ca u cant even enjoy the water because its to cold. the water is pretty much only good for surfing (with a wet suit). but im sure there are ppl who swim and enjoy cold water but i believe there are more ppl who would like the water to be warm like in fl?

CA has such a diverse coastline and beaches. I prefer the northern beaches with the redwoods growing on the waters edge. So nice to camp under a redwood and walk across the trail to the water.
