SamTX is on a distinguished road
Moved from Newbury Park/Thousand Oaks/Dos Vientos to Austin, TX. We miss the beach, mountains etc. which we actually did used to go enjoy quite a bit (before kids when we had the time and energy) but after 2 kids, needed more than a town home. Main reason for the move was my parents lived in TX and needed our kids to see their grandparents on a more regular basis, get more for your $ here. The fact that Austin is as close to CA as you can get here in TX is another reason. We do think about moving back to CA, esp. Ventura County which was unlike any other part of CA. So I maybe missing Ventura county and the ocean. Not too much traffic on the 101 on that area. So if DH gets a decent job around that area, sure we'd seriously think about moving back.

TX summers are pretty hot, its already 92 in late May. Sure we have a custom built house (3000 sq ft) with a huge yard backing to nothing but trees and a golf course. But we are not sure if its all worth it to live in this heat. Now that kids are older, we have more time to enjoy the outdoors, but outdoors here are really nice all year except April though October. Thats half a year!! Anyway these are my thoughts. CA will always be home in my heart (next to my family of course!).

We moved from Thousand Oaks, Lang Ranch to Colorado. I worked at Point Mugu and later in the SF Valley. Where (location) did you work when you lived in Newbury Park? I echo much of what you wrote. After four kids it is tough for us to have fun. One restaurant meal a month is a luxury. Most of the time is shuttling them to soccer games and birthday parties - which is the same anywhere you live. Before kids we were hiking and biking all over the area.
