Or maybe they believe that there are qualified workers in Texas. I know most folks want to believe that Texas is full of toothless, inbred rednecks, but that's far from the truth.

Sure. No reason to think that any corporation or business on the planet should possibly have benefit other places IF only California wasn't so e'ffed up! The ONLY possible explanation for businesses existing anywhere but California is: California is e'ffed up. If California wasn't e'ffed up, the entire planet would move ALL operations and personnel here! Just think of how wonderful it would be with 7 billion people all working harmoniously in un-e'ffed up California!

God! When will California finally wake up?! Drop all the stupid regulation and taxation! Bring Toyota back! Bring ALL the world to sunny California!

This made me chuckle. hehe.

Good point though...Toyota isn't the end all to California, and neither does Texas have to be for Toyota. There are several variables at play here. Nonetheless, this will hit the Southbay area of LA hard.

Why do you think it will backfire on Toyota to move to Texas.

Texas had recovered from the recession clear back in 2011, but California still is trying to completely recover. Good jobs such as Toyota, and new California owned companies opening facilities in Texas such as the new Apple computer manufacturing facility, have no problem moving to texas.

Lets look at the facts:

Non Farm Job Growth January 2000 to April 2013, California 11.9% - U.S overall 11.3% - Texas 24.4%

Non Farm Payroll Grew by California 2.6% - U.S overall 3.6% - Texas 19.7%

Population Growth Rate California 11.9% - U.S. 11.3% - Texas 24.4%

Added jobs for new residents Ca1 for every 11 - U.S 1 for every 7 - Texas 1 for every 3

Fact: Most of Texas Growth was from other States. California on the other hand has been exporting more residents to other states than immigration from other states, with it's growth largely immigrants, a large part of them being illegals.

California wages are higher than Texas, but before taxes after wages are adjusted for the difference for cost of living, Texas wages are about 13% higher than California, and remember that is before those horrendous California Taxes they don't have in Texas.

Texas v. California: The Real Facts Behind The Lone Star State's Miracle - Forbes

Remember, Cost of doing business in Texas is near 40% lower than in California. Oh Yeah, Toyota is going to hurt bad over this move.

I've noted that Toyota isn't moving their design work to Texas. Why would that be? If Texas is so utterly fantabulous, you'd think they'd have some phenomenal "leader of the pack" designers.

It's a funny thing that almost everyone keeps their design work in California....

The percent doesn't even tell the real story as the employees most likely to move to Texas are likely those with the least opportunities.....in other words their lower quality employees. With this move they could lose most of their top talent.

In any case, I guess a lot of their employees concluded life is too short to live in Texas. I mean, seriously, what does Texas have going for it other than being cheaper?

A few years ago when the Toyota Plant in Fremont California closed... employees were discouraged from following production to Texas...

They were told the severance package would be forfeited and there were upwards of 5000 employees affected.

Now the plant builds Tesla electric vehicles.

Do they know this ahead of time, or just gambling with this notion?
Not just rednecks out there. There are also a sea of oil goons and preppers to choose from. Wonder if Toyota is going to go with all big, lifted trucks from here on out?
