Hi
I just got a job in Patterson. I'm thinking of renting a place close to work so that I don't have to drive too long. Looked at the options in Patterson, nothing but big houses with rent at $1500 or around.

That leaves me with Modesto or Turlock. Both seem to have good 2-3 bed apartments at a decent 1000-1200 price range.

Any suggestions? I don't know how bad the drive can be in winters or otherwise from either of these places to Patterson. Also, is Patterson safe to rent a big house and live by yourself(no sharing)?

I'll be grateful if you can shed some light using your experience having lived in or around this area.

Winters? It doesn't snow, if that's what you're worried about. Fog will likely be an issue though.

Patterson itself has a good reputation here from what I understand, as does Turlock. Modesto is a pretty large/full-service city, with all the pros/cons that go with that.

I use to do a lot of fishing around the San Joaquin Valley. Mostly catfish & striped Bass in the Delta/Mendota & CA Aqueduct canals, & the San Luis O'Neill Forebay. We camped in our American Clipper motorhome........Dec, Jan, Feb was cold & windy.

I remember one winter quite a number of tractor engine blocks froze because they didn't add antifreeze to the cooling systems.

Some parts of Turlock were pretty nice back then.

Take a look at a map here of the closest cities around. There are several more than Modesto and Turlock.

I'd choose Turlock. Lived in the area my whole life. If I had a place I'd try and stay towards Stan State or Pittman high school. Very nice areas. Modesto if you want more dining/shopping options. Nightlife is decent at best & Turlock. Modesto has more nightlife if your into that.

The drive from Turlock to Patterson is less than 20 minutes. All you do is drive down 1 road all the way to Patterson.

Hope this helps
