There's some truth to that, although in fairness it's pretty difficult not to acquire some sense of "righteous" in the face of so much willful stupidity, fear-mongering and deceit.

March 2014 Rasmussen poll shows Forty-one percent (41%) of Republicans still believe Obama is not an American citizen

Congressman Paul Broun (R-Ga.), ranking member on the House Science, Space and Technology Committee calls Embryology, Evolution and the Big Bang Theory "lies straight from the pit of Hell!”

Why is it that Americans are fairly unique in grousing about "eating up tax dollars", and about how paying taxes is a waste? In Scandinavia, while people complain about the tax burden, they don't speak in terms of that money being wasted. To the contrary, in general they're proud of the benefits their system provides. Free university education, decent pensions, good support and medical services for the disabled, etc. They don't talk about wasted tax dollars.

The difference is "they" get benefit from their tax dollars - and Californians don't. We don't have sidewalks and streets. We don't have police and fire protections. We don't have environmental protections. No water distribution systems. No parks. Nothing.

We citizens are just red-headed stepchildren to our government.

^ ^ Part of that difference probably has to do with the Nordic welfare model, where most programs and benefits are universal, not selective, and rich and poor citizens have equal status.

Also countries that provide means-tested welfare are less likely to have happy inhabitants, and tend to be more distrustful of each other, as demonstrated by our own acrimony re: "takers" and "welfare queens".

Happier people in the Nordic countries

Sarcasm?

btw, I recently did a comparison of community college tuitions in several states for someone on another forum, and CA CC tuition is almost half that in other states.

Utter nonsense! Liberals do not use fear but are among the most cynical people but you're trying to say that they use warm-hearted ideas? I guess they do sound warm-hearted to those who identify with the "I got mine and it's all about me" mentality.

But the reality of anthropogenic change - is scientific fact.

Now back to outer space for you
It's been said before; those who deny climate change are likely direct descendants of those who insisted the earth is flat.

Ruth, I hear what you're saying here. The difference is, in the USA, we don't get free university or universal health care. We spend it on war after war so, it really IS being wasted.
