You're doing a good thing for your father in law. Enjoy it and make it memorable.

If you are looking for a good job in Coalinga, I strongly suggest the State Hospital. It is a 1,500 bed facility next to the prison, but the working conditions are far better than in a prison, even though all of the patients are sex offenders. I've been here since it opened in 2005 and there has never been more than a handful of sexual incidences occur (nothing serious) and almost no assaults. People find it hard to believe, but the sex offender population is really not what most people expect. My friend works as a CDC guard and he's said for years that sex offenders are the easiest population to work with, fewest fights, least number of assualts, very non-violent most of them. Many times however (I'm sorry to say) incidents occur here because some of the female staff allow themselves to become over-familiar with the men. As long as you can keep a professional distance, you have a good paying job with lots of overtime if you want it. As for the town itself? It sucks. And, the biggest draw back of all? The central valley is the world's worst spot for contracting the killer called "valley fever". So, there's the situation in a nutshell. c.r.w. 4-23-2013

You will grow tired of Coalinga very quickly, I used to deliver out there and it is such a small, boring , depressing hot place. I am sure it's nice if you want quiet country living but that's about it. Fresno is too far, and that's not even a major city, the closest real city with real culture, real airport ect is in the bay which is pretty far. Stockton is close enough to get away from the Central Valley if need be, but when your in the heart of the Central Valley it is the epicenter of agriculture, cows, bad smell, fog and close to nowhere, think about it.
