Also, Cal refers specifically to Berkeley.... not other UCs.
If someone says "i go to Cal"..... that means "I go to UC Berkeley"

other UCs are just called what they are... I go to UCLA...or UCSD, or wherever.
Some people do say "Cal-Berkeley", "Cal-Davis".

So, start prepping! OP, what have you been waiting for? You said your main problem before was stress, due to other stuff going on in your life. You're free and clear, now. Not much prep needed, just take the test. It sounds like you have a defeatist attitude.

A 300 out of 1600 on the GRE will not get you in anywhere, period. That score will be a blemish on any record. Retake the test. Study like mad for 7 days and you should be able to get to the 1000 range.

UCSB is pretty competitive. Unless you have some stellar undergrad GPA with amazing extracurriculars in the field of environmental science you gotta pump that score as high as possible.

They must not have attended either school. (I've never heard of anyone who went to UC Davis who called it "Cal-Davis." Sounds like an auto dealership.)

I'm pretty sure GRE changed their scoring system recently. Nowadays 170 is the max score for either verbal or math. So while OP's score is below par it isn't as horrible as you think.

lol. Some old-time Berkeley residents call it that, to differentiate it from Cal-Berkeley. Then there's "Cal-State Hayward". "Cal" comes up in reference to several state schools.
