Here is a list of why Businesses are leaving the state from Irvine consultant Joe Vranich

10. Unfair taxes (Tax Foundation ranks California as 48th for tax fairness.)

9. Most expensive business locations (Rose Institute for State and Local Government has many California cities as the most expensive U.S. places in which to do business.)

8. Worst performing labor (Pacific Research Institute rates California's labor performance over a five-year period) as lowest in the nation.)

7. Dreadful legal treatment (Civil Justice Association of California ranks California as 44th in legal fairness to business.)

6. Worst regulatory burden (Consultant Bain & Co., in a 2004 report for the California Business Roundtable, said California is far worse than any other state on its "regulatory hassle index," based on cost, uncertainty and complexity of government regulations.)

5. Harsh treatment motivates exits (Bain & Co. also said more than half of California's business leaders said their companies had a policy to restrict job growth in this state.)

4. Unfriendliness (The Small Business and Entrepreneurship Council ranks California 48th — Vranich says 49th based on the council's 2009 report — in business friendliness.)

3. High misery index (Associated Press publishes a monthly economic stress index that ranked California 3rd highest in December.)

2. Uncontrollable spending (Several pollsters say people are angrier about California government than at any other time in the polls' history.)

1. Worst state to do business (Chief Executive magazine surveyed company executives to conclude that California is the worst place in which to do business.)
You are aware that Joe Vranich is a "Business Relocation Consultant" whose business specializes in moving companies out of California, right?

But, his business puts him in contact with a lot of businesses, that have already moved from the state or are making plans to move. Who would be better to know why the businesses are fleeing from the state. If you want to know why your car does not run, you go to a mechanic. If you want your car repaired, you don't go to Joe Vranich. If you want to know why businesses are leaving the state, the mechanic would have no real knowledge. For that type of answer, you have to go to the person that has an inside track and is working with those businesses.

I read an article in a major business magazine a few months ago. There was a large printing company that hired hundreds of people, that wanted to enlarge and double it's size and employment. They found that they would have to spend $2,500,000 yes millions for all the permits they needed including the attorneys, etc., to get it approved. They further found, that it would take a minimum of 2.5 years as there were 54 different bureaucracies involved that all had a say. There was a sign just down the street from where he had his plant that touted Tulsa Ok. He called and they had him fly out to see. He found that it would all be permitted in less than 6 weeks in Tulsa, and that they had the same standards for operating the business as California, only 6 agencies involved. On top of that they would assign one state employee to work with them full time to get everything taken care of.

He checked property values, and found he could sell his present plant and most equipment, to move to a new large building with room not only for present expansion plans, but future plans, in a better area of the city than the one in California. The sale of the building paid for the new building, and new equipment to double his business. In other words he got to double the size of his business without any real cost to him. Most of his people moved with him, and paying them the same salary as in California, they could all afford nice homes in nice areas. The new staff members, were so happy for the good paying jobs he offered. He said the work ethic was way better in Oklahoma. He found that his cost to do business was much lower, and he made a huge increase in the profits his family received from the business. The article ended with his saying, he just wished he had made this move years ago, and he would never go back to California. His interview said exactly why companies are fleeing California, and people are leaving California when their job moves out of state, so they can have a better life style living where the cost of living is way less.

Either way, we have great tacos here. Out in flyover, you are afforded the pleasure of the rare time you leave your BIG house to indulge in Taco Bell.

Yet CA pays more per pupil than I believe any state in the Union.
CA ranks 35th in the nation in per pupil spending.

Wonderful story of why everyone in California should move to Oklahoma. Thanks for that!

Now then, I repeat: Joe Vranich is a salesman whose business profits from convincing people to have him move their businesses out of state.

Car mechanics profit from convincing you to replace parts and engines, transmissions, tires.

Salespeoples' livelihoods rely on convincing people of all kinds of things.

You, OT, have told us that your own entire career was being a salesman.

You, OT, quote statistics and articles here constantly to support your position. And it is blatantly obvious that you only quote what might convince readers to buy your product: "The Failure of California". You quote things such as: how many businesses left California in 2009. But you don't report how many businesses opened in or moved to California in 2009. Even though the only meaningful metric is the difference of businesses coming and going over a period of multiple years.

Meanwhile, as I pointed out to you recently, to which you did not respond, California has more businesses now than ever before. Making more money than ever before.

Joe Vranich can't sell that.

All said, however, it is certainly true that many businesses are better off moving than staying. Just as many other businesses are well positioned to prosper here. And do.

You mean the kind of custodians that led the state in the "good old days" to become the failed state it is today? Overwhelmed with population and traffic and lack of sufficient infrastructure and resources? Those guys?
