Where in California would you live if money was not an issue?
Extra points for:
1. On the beach.
2. Great nearby schools.
3. Acreage.

Monterrey? Santa Monica? (No acreage option there, though.) Laguna Beach, Orange County?

You can Google "California beach estates" yourself, OP. The thing is, much of CA's coastline is locked up in state parks, for public access. Still, there are a few estates here and there, up and down the coast, on 2-3 acres, that come available from time to time.

La Jolla, more specifically Windansea or Bird Rock neighborhoods.

OR this home. 5.5 acres right on the ocean in Del Mar.

Considering the amount of land you get this home is a pretty good deal compared to what other beachfront homes go for in Del Mar when you look at the price per sq ft.

I'd live in Palos Verdea Estates on one of the gated lots with a view of the bays (Malaga Cove, Lunada Bay) something like this: 2228 Via Cerritos, Palos Verdes Estates CA For Sale | Trulia.com

but the ultimate on the beach, acreage and good schools has to be La Jolla

La Jolla Luxury Homes and La Jolla Luxury Properties | Property Search Results | Luxury Portfolio

where the water is warm more than half the year. Surfers paradise.

I'd add that one of the most underrated luxury areas is Huntington Harbour, with ocean views and private docks to park your 100' yacht!

It's hard to find anyone who will sell if they have a dock.

Here's a end condo with a small dock
16128 Tortola Cir, Huntington Beach, CA 92649

$1.65M ...for a condo

I'd live somewhere in the Northern CA Sierra foothills.

I'd live right where I am except I'd have about a thousand acres of land and put up a fence to keep out the riff raff.

i would buy about 100 acres close to Arnold, ca.
just below the snow line...most of the time. once or twice a year can get a couple inches but it always melts away.
not that far from major city's. but far enough to live a peaceful quiet life. anything i would need to buy there is always mail order
AKA: no liberals trying to tell me how i should live.
close to fishing, hunting. bow, rifle, etc.
plenty of lakes and a couple rivers.
spend a lot of evenings just enjoying the country. long walks. watching the eagles, deer, bobcats, big cats, bear?, other critters.
great roads to ride my motorbike. and plenty of dirt single track for the "other motor bike".

too old to care about any schools.
besides thanks to some antis, it is not legal to hire kids to do hard work like chopping firewood, mowing the lawn, delivering newspapers...are they still around?

.
