Default BFE: Boron and other small towns near Death Valley

I need help decideing between Apple Valley, Lancaster, or Bakersfield.

I might take a job in Boron, Yikes!

So there is a mining company in Boron, with a great position. If I take it I would need to live somewhere with a decent singles population (not necessarily a singles scene, just the population). So when I drew a 50min commute time circle around Boron, I came up with these 3 cities. Since I will be driving out to the middle of nowhere I assume I traffic will be a non issue and each mile will equal 1 min (at 60mph).

So between AV, Lancaster, and Bakerfield where would you advice a 31 single male to live? I will rent for sure, so housing prices is a non-issue. Schools don't matter either since I have no kids.

PLEASE ADVISE!

Seems like Bakersfield would have the better nightlife of those choices.

You've overlooked Rosamond. Might not be much of a singles swinging town, but it's close enough to Lancaster to take part in their "night life" and then come home to peace & quiet.

You might get REAL tired of the commute to Bakersfield. Hwy.58 is 2 lanes, each way and the big rig drivers are clueless when it comes to driving and they create the traffic by being fully loaded and not caring or even looking, and they cut you off to try and pass another truck... going uphill. This makes it so the traffic goes from cruising at 65-70 to 24mph in a matter of seconds. That gets old after a while. But other than that, the commute, although loooooong, isn't one where you'd be sitting in stopped traffic.

Good luck with the new job!

If I were working in Boron, I would seriously consider living in Tehachapi. It's about halfway between Boron and Bakersfield. There isn't a whole lot there for singles, though I know there are some singles there, and Bakersfield isn't too far away when you're looking for nightlife or entertainment. The commute from there to Boron would also be much better, and you could avoid most of the fog that shrouds the Central Valley regularly in the winter. Even from Tehachapi, the drive would be something like 45 minutes, so figure twice that if you're coming from Bakersfield.

In the original post you mentioned Apple Valley, Lancaster, and Bakersfield. I wasn't sure if you meant Apple Valley or the Antelope Valley. The Antelope Valley is the valley in which Lancaster is located, but also includes Palmdale, Quartz Hill, and Lake Los Angeles. Apple Valley is a community in the Victor Valley area, as are Victorville, Adelanto, and Hesperia. This area is like most others in that there are good and bad parts of the area. My perception of the area is that it is a bedroom community of Los Angeles and the "Inland Empire," so the singles scene might not have a lot to offer. The Antelope Valley is also a bedroom community of Los Angeles, so is very similar. Unlike, Bakersfield, however, these communities offer closer proximity to Los Angeles and all that goes with that. For nightlife and entertainment, L.A. has the most to offer, so you might want to be somewhat closer than you could be in Bakersfield.
