Movin to cali, not a hundred percent sure where yet but we'll figure that part out.

so... do i trade in the stang for a small travel trailer and try to trade back when i settle down? has anyone tried to do something similar? mistake?

another thought is finding a really small hitch and towing some stuff off the back of the stang. you think it could handle it? thoughts about getting stuff stolen along the journey doing this?

thanks for the input...

How about renting a U-Haul and towing the Mustang?

True but having the right tool for the job usually makes things easier. You can pick up a towing package for a recent Mustang for $200-300. You'd still have to acquire a trailer or rent one and that trailer would be pretty small given the towing capacity of the vehicle. If you rent a hard sided trailer it can be locked to prevent casual theft but you really can't fit furniture in them.

I don't have any experience with this but I have read of people sharing moving trucks. Maybe you could check in your location if anyone is moving to a nearby area and share a truck. Could be a win-win.

thanks for the info and suggestions.

furniture is going to freecycle, not much worth hanging onto anyway, it's really just the clothes, i have a lot and am terribly irresponsibly unwilling to let go of, a few bigger items like wall hangings, and we need room in the car or cab or whatnot for our three kitties, which eliminates quite a bit of packing room.

the more i think about it i think i'm gonna try to ship a lot out there, then maybe get a small hitch. i think i'm gonna lose too much on the car with the trade and then worried about getting stuck with a trailer i can't sell back.

Ship you stuff in UPS boxes. The big stuff, have a garage sale. Keep your Mustang, remember California Sales tax is between 7.8-8.5% so you could save a lot there as well (if your car holds up for a few more years that is).
