Looking to move to an affordable beach city in Southern California. Specifically looking to be w/I walking distance to the Ocean w/o roommates at $1200 or less a month. Initial search results show this is possible in Long Beach and Oceanside. If one were to work in between the two somewhere in the OC which city would be better to reside in? What are the major advantages and disadvantages of each? Are there any other affordable beach cities in Southern California?

You should really ask this question in the California forum rather than in the L.A. subforum - Long Beach is on topic for the L.A. subforum but Oceanside isn't. Also, you'd get a wider range of opinions from people more familiar with all the SoCal counties. Long Beach isn't really a "beach city" - it's the biggest port city of the west coast, and one of the largest cities in California - so I don't think that's what you're after.

Besides Oceanside you might also want to check out Imperial Beach. The place to ask about both O-Side and Imperial Beach is in the San Diego forum. (Maybe also Oxnard in Ventura County?)

You could work in OC and live in LB, but the drive would not be fun.

You would not want to work in OC and live in Oceanside. Too far unless you worked in San Clemente or close by.
