Well sometimes it's more than just looks. If I could count how many times I've encountered a guy with a decent to good looking woman cheat with a woman who looks quite the opposite, I'd be out of breath. So it may not actually be about the "beauty" in those cases.
Really there are good looking people everywhere. It depends on your type because you might find a certain type of woman in SF you would rarely find in SD, but there are standardly attractive people in any city.
