Default Do California folk really think......

that they are better that others?

And the only reason I ask this is because I moved to Arizona less than 2 years ago & apparently there are alot of Californians that have moved here in big numbers over the last few years.
Well, to get to the point here, nobody likes them (which does not include me.)
I only know one, a girl from "SoCal" that recently started working with me & well, to be honest, she treats people like dirt.

I'm wondering if the majority of Cali thinks that they are 'above others'? For whatever reason.

Because that's the impression that AZ has & well, even though I've never been to California, the few I have met here seem to fit that bill as well. Possibly they are misread.

Now I'm from Missouri/Illinois & grew up in Louisiana. And we firmly believe in hospitality & being very friendly,
so give me the lowdown Cali!

You say you only know one gal through work and you base the entire state on one person?

Perhaps she's nervous because she's not in her "home" area. Perhaps it is just her.

Which is why I'm asking.
And NO, this girl is not nervous, she just has her nose in the air.

And if you talk to most people in this area, they will big time hate on the Californians, which I never add to their comments.
So, at this point, I do not have a judgement & I probably never will considering I do not enjoy judging others. Maybe alot of California city-goers moved to this country area & were disappointed, I do not know.

Supposedly, there is resentment against ex-Californians because Californians raised local housing prices

and contributed to sprawl.

Charles--good collection of posts. There are also maybe a dozen more similar posts to be found on the Oregon and Washington websites where the treatment of California transplants to those states is endlessly debated.

Charles:
Thanks for the reading material Charles!

I would like to have something good or at least knowledgable to say when I hear people talking trash about Californians. I would prefer to know what I'm talking about when topic comes up.

But I don't have anything to say about this snobby girl that I work with. And just for the record: since when does "being nervous" make a person treat others badly?

There are 36 Million people in California, surely they are not all snobs.

I do think there is a sense of pride that Californians have for their state, a sense of being a bit different than the rest of the US.

Now generally speaking, I do think Californians are a defensive breed when going to other states. Since California is constantly on TV, Movies and in the press, people from other states automatically perceive Californian's as Flashy Hollywood Hippies.

Much of the California populace are just regular people, that enjoy where they live.

I'm going to memorize this whole post so that I can say exactly this next time I have the chance!

Maybe it's the Arizonians that are talking all the trash that are thinking that 'they are better.' I've never heard any Cali talk until moving here.

I agree with that. Also, so many people around the country want to move to California that it contributes to a sense of pride.
