You can pass all your costs to customers. It’s your business. However

You have other competitors. And customers will shop elsewhere. So you’ll lose customers and be forced to lower prices or go out of business. It’s easy to say raise prices. Doing it is another thing.

It would be practically impossible to have such system. It’s basically unworkable. You might as well privatize services and send a bill when you use services. You don’t pay you don’t get a ambulance. Your house burning down? Better have a check written out. Need a cop cause you got stabbed and bleeding? Better hold out that Visa. . As a society we all pay.
However under your idea the people who will be paying more are the ones who can least afford it.

How will raising taxes put more houses on the market? I think it will constrict housing even more as people who were moving up now can’t so they aren’t selling. People who were moving to buy won’t.
Raising taxes won’t do squat for affordable housing.
What will is building more housing

Taxes have nothing to do with the prices of commodities or food stuff. Food is priced different. A can of corn may be .99 cents at Pavillions and .79 cents at Food 4 Less.

Then there's no reason for consumers to support lowering taxes on businesses huh? If consumers don't benefit from lower prices because of lower taxes then one can assume that the business owner is shoveling the extra revenue into their pocket, right?

Post of the thread. This should be a sticky, given all the threads there are here on Prop 13 (and all the misinformation about why it was passed and what it does).

e.g - Letting people keep more of their money instead of giving it to the government to fund retired people's pensions...

Apparently fewer than a third of taxpayers have been allowed to keep more of their money:

"Just 32 percent of the public reports having more take home pay because of the tax cuts, including only 48 percent of Trump supporters and 35 percent of the middle class. More than half say they see no change in their paychecks and 16 percent are unsure."

Wasted post as that has nothing to do with Prop 13, the subject.
