LOL. This thread reminds me of the one I started about how the state gave me credit on my electric bill from fees they had collected. It was crickets for quite a while...

And just think, even after the state has given $140 twice a year to electricity consumers, there is still a surplus in the budget. I guess all us Democrats just couldn't think of anything else to spend it on?

I guess this is why I also don't worry about the drought. Everything is cyclical.

There, maybe that will get things going.

Be careful for what you wish for.

And enjoy the deafening silence, the quietude. I get tired of the polemics.

All that is true. But make no mistake: a critical step towards the state's return to fiscal health was a tax increase. That reality also contributes to the deafening silence of the usual whiners.

The fiscal health may not last long, if the continued drought causes strains on the economy. That's the wild card in the deck. Such a shame. For one, brief, fleeting moment, there was hope!

Yes. Volcker even pointed out the tax increase as part of the success. He praised it.

If there's still a drought a year from now the economy will be in the crapper

CA already had high taxes before the idiot, long before. And it was a budgetary mess, long before. The idiot at least brought the state closer to solvency.

Sales taxes? Read and weep Vega:

The five states with the highest average combined state-local sales tax rates are Tennessee (9.45 percent), Arkansas (9.26 percent), Alabama (8.91 percent), Louisiana (8.91 percent), and Washington (8.89 percent).Apr 8, 2015
California has the nation's highest tax bracket for top earners. But for average earners, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and several others top California for income tax burden. California has the nation's greatest number of brackets and ends up highly progressive in rates. In fact, California doesn't even rank in 24/7 Wall Street's analysis of the "Top Ten Worst Tax States for Average Americans" (but guess which 'no income tax states do?). A very erudite analysis:
10 States With the Worst Taxes for Average Americans - 24/7 Wall St.
