University of California, DAVIS (10 miles from Downtown Sacramento)

is absolutely the BEST #1 college for VETERINARY MEDICINE IN THE NATION AND the WORLD. It has been consistently ranked #1 for many years. For the last 20 years it has been ranked as #1, #2, or #3.

http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsa...arian-rankings

If you want to be a Veterinarian with the most Prestigious Education, UC DAVIS is the BEST.

What other colleges in California have that distinction? The absolutely #1 Best, not #3, nor #5, but the BEST in the world or nation.

Name the college and name the Discipline, does that college also have a graduate program ranked #1 in that same discipline; does that college also have something like a residency program like a Teaching Hospital to become a Doctor, Dentist, Lawyer, Architect, etc. at the same University that is also consistently ranked #1 in the nation or world.

UC Berkeley may have a really good law school but has it ever been ranked #1 in the nation or world, and for how long?

Stanford is overall one of the best universities in the nation, but in which disciplines or field of study has it been consistently ranked #1 in the nation or world?

In 2014, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo was ranked #1 in the nation for Architecture for the first time, but its architecture grad program, if it has one, is not even in the top 50.

It's been #1 in other polls, but you have to look at their goals. In the field of architecture a BArch and MArch are equivalent. BArch is a 5 year degree. MArch is a two year post grad degree. Someone who gets a BArch would not get an MArch. Cal Poly focuses on undergrad work.

As for the other top California schools they are among the best in the world, that's good enough. My sons school UCLA ranked #11 worldwide this year.

It would seem like marine biology at UCSB, molecular biology at UCSD, and physics at Berkeley would be tops.

Personally, I don't take these rankings to mean a whole lot. Some universities get great rankings because of their stature, when their individual programs are mediocre. For an undergrad, it is about finding the right size, curriculum, location, and culture. For graduate school, ranking helps those seeking academic posts after graduating, but the rest depends upon the specific research program, funding, and the fit/synergy between advisor and student.

California has some of the BEST colleges, overall, both private and public in the nation/world, but that is not the premise of this thread.

The premise is to determine which disciplines or fields of study or academic programs at which California Colleges are absolutely the BEST #1 CONSISTENTLY year after year.

I know of only one, UC DAVIS'S VETERINARY PROGRAM, consistently ranked the BEST #1 in the Nation/World.

I believe Berkeley always ranks number 1 for English.

Your problem is in the word "consistently". Many people with many priorities formulate these rankings. They're not going to be consistent.

Exactly right. No school is always #1 (not even UC Davis). You'll see Stanford and Harvard #1 in the nation and then the next year they'll be #4 or 5.

It'd be better to say consistently top 10.
