from Doug85GT on the Fiero forum

The hug-a-thug crowd put Prop. 47 on the ballot with a lot of support from the left. The voters of this state were dumb enough to vote for it. Everyone was warned that this would increase crime. One thing that went unnoticed by most people until recently is that it also made theft of guns under $950 and possession of stolen guns under $950 a misdemeanor instead of a felony like it used to be. (Most hand guns and a large number of rifles cost less than $950 for those unfamiliar with gun prices.) Criminals that already have felony convictions for those crimes can petition to have their sentences reduced and the crime reduced to misdemeanors. This means they can also have their right to bear arms reinstated. The same people that want the most stringent gun control just gave criminals more motivation to steal guns.

And we all know that criminals need more motivation to steal guns. It just wasn't worth the risk before. Now they'll all want as many guns as they can get. Used to be they'd go into a house, steal anything not bolted down - EXCEPT GUNS! They used to look at the guns and say, "nah, that would get me in too much trouble. Just not worth it!"

I never thought I'd see the day when California was being lambasted for having gun laws that are too lenient!

Explain to me why the theft of a gun with a value of under $950 should be treated differently than the theft of something other than a gun? If you take the gun during a burglary, or with force those are still both felonies that carry long prison terms. If the individual stealing the gun has a prior felony charge, that is charged as a felony.

Reducing a felony to a misdemeanor in order to restore gun rights has been a law in California for as long as I can remember, but there are 40 misdemeanors that carry with them a 10 year ban from possession a gun. California has some of the toughest laws in the US regarding felons regaining gun rights, in some states gun rights are restored upon the completion of probation or parole. http://thelede.blogs.nytimes.com/201...nd-gun-rights/
Rand Paul advocates for the restoration of gun rights to all non-violent felons Sentencing Law and Policy: Senator Rand Paul talking up restoring voting and gun rights for felons, as well as sentencing reform A house vote to restore gun rights to non-violent felons was celebrated by the NRA "In a significant victory for Second Amendment rights, the House this week voted to let non-violent felons win back their gun rights." https://www.nraila.org/articles/2015...ore-gun-rights

So..V8, what's the big deal? after all, if Rand Paul and the NRA like the idea of restoring gun rights then maybe it's not so bad that in California you can restore yours if you can get a felony reduced to a misdemeanor?

I just wish that the supreme court (and the states) would enforce the 2nd ammendment.
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
It's pretty obvious that a well regulated militia is a necessary requirement for keeping and bearing arms. You should only be allowed to have arms if you are part of an official (state) militia. So only state-guardsmen should have arms.

Your very title to this thread induces headaches.

It should be a misdemeanor.

I am hoping that you are in possession of a dictionary or spell-check tool.

But that doesn't appear to be the case.

I think our laws regarding delinquency in spelling and the use of the language are too lenient. Some of these people that are producing billboard copy and bench advertisements should be doing hard time in San Quentin.
