alifornia Governor Jerry Brown has signed a bill into law that has removed the words “husband” and “wife” from the state’s marriage laws.

Instead, they have been replaced with the word “spouse.” Brown reportedly did this because the words “husband” and “wife” have now been classified as “anti-gay.”

This bill is known as SB1306, and it is set to take effect on January 1.

“I am pleased Gov. Brown has recognized the importance of this bill, which makes it explicitly clear in state law that every loving couple has the right to marry in California,” said state Sen. Mark Leno, who wrote the bill making the terminology change. “This legislation removes outdated and biased language from state codes and recognizes all married spouses equally, regardless of their gender.”

This is of course absolutely ridiculous, since there is nothing hateful about the words “husband” and “wife.” The new law only shows that gay marriage activists will not be satisfied with same-sex marriage. In reality, they won’t be happy until traditional marriage is completely dead.

Doesn't change anything really I will still refer to my spouse as wife. Does that upset you, aah you'll get over it. Things do change you know. It's about time the legal system started treating Gay people equally.

Exaggerate much?

No one is "banning" the terms husband and wife.

They are simply changing the terminology on government forms so all are included.

Would it be better or more efficient to have two sets of forms?

Utterly ridiculous! I have heard married lesbians refer to each other as wives and married gay men refer to each other as husbands.

Spouse just sounds so blah and ugly. Ugh. This does nothing for equality.

As long as the terms are equal, that's what matters.

Remember the bad old days of meek women allowing "man and wife" to be said?
That's when the term needed changing, not now.

Maybe JB is laying the groundwork for future partnerships between humans and squirrels.

So it is absolutely fair that traditional Husband and Wife are forced to not be able to refer to themselves as Husband and Wife.

Just because same sex couples whine and cry and carry on.

Yup, that is fair to those who enter into a traditional marriage.

It would be better to have checkboxes, so that the couple (no threesomes, please) could choose what they wish to be called.

So simple.

Too simple and smart of a concept for the government.

We should go with "Peanut Butter and Jelly".

Problem solved.

No one is stopping anyone from using the term husband or wife to refer to their spouse.

If signing a government form that refers to your SO as your spouse once in a blue moon is going to threaten your "traditional" marriage, you have no business being married in the first place.

So simple unless the term is in the middle of a sentence.

Are they supposed to sprinkle little checkboxes throughout the body of a document?
