The decision to cite/release is a local one. In Napa, Solano, Yolo & Butte a very large majority of offenders arrested for misdemeanors are booked into the jail and remain there until they post bond.

This being the argument people make when they don't understand that money for one state/federal project doesn't get spent using money from city services.

Seriously..how much do you want to spend, just consider prison costs without even throwing in the other costs of law enforcement, courts, etc.

The police are non-pulsed by it... Mom was told it was the second one that morning... doesn't take much if the thief is determined.

Sheriff found mom's 14 weeks after it was stolen... and it was not wrecked or missing many parts... seems someone took it and drove it until it was out of gas and parked it...
I'm glad your mom recovered her fave vehicle. I like happy endings!
Odd that someone would just take it to ride around in.

The prison and justice system is state funded.

The higher level of spending on prisons at least accomplishes the goals it was set out for, lowering crime. Education spending has increased and students are getting dumber.

Not to mention spending on schools is roughly ten time higher than the spending on the justice system and prisons.

Site and release has more to do with realignment as prisoners have been sent down to county jails filling them to over capacity; leaving no room to lower level criminals leading to site and release. This might not be much of an issue in rural counties, but it is a very large issue in more populated areas.

Fantastic! I told you that she would get it back, remember? There is little value in stealing cars like that dummies take them when they need a ride and drive around until they are out of gas- it happens all the time. No one is going to take an old Corolla and strip it for parts, the parts would be worth about $800

It does not, do you even know what realignment did? As far as overcrowded jails..do some research since 2011 the state has given counties billions to expand jails and create local treatment/rehab facilities, by 2016-2017 the state will have distributed 4.4 billion dollars to counties for that purpose. If jails are releasing inmates early- then go to your county supervisors or city council and tell them- don't whine on the internet cause we can't fix this for you.

Thats after 12 straight years of crime decreases in LA.
Guess what? Adachi wants to expand it further. I believe a new Prop is being written to do so.

According to Adachi et al, this is actually an huge success. In this case success is measured by reduction in the prison population.

I do have to admit I agree with a small sliver of their argument - in the area of certain drug related incarcerations. But Adachi wants to make most robberies non-felony offenses. WRONG!
