Default I'm confused...

is this a political thread... or...?

Ho hum. I'm wiccan, married to a mormon, registered democrat, believe in fiscal conservatism, don't think anyone has any right to tell me that my religious or sexual preferences are "wrong". Not a hippie... and don't preach to me about "family" or "moral" values when time and time again you hear about crooked or deviant religious leaders. You worship your god, I'll worship mine(s).

Now that THAT'S out of the way, can we get back to the discussion of towns where I hopefully wouldn't be burned at the stake?

If the Left can keep their laws to themselves and their commune, that'll be fine. But as anyone who has ever smoked twenty feet from a government building knows, that's not true.

so many retorts, so little time. I'll stick with: I'm sure there's many political forums out there better suited to your "views".

Back to the topic at hand.

You cannot deny that the peace movement of the late 60's and early 70's made it clear that a large percentage of our population felt that the Vietnam war was useless. and tragic. The peace movement did have an impact.
It's difficult today to not be discouraged but still the counter culture of that time planted seeds that did bloom.
The cynicism that is so prevalent today is not helpful to say the least. It takes alot of will and courage to not give into it that cynicism.
To be independent in your thinking and have strength in that independence takes courage. There are way too many sheeple.
The younger people of this time may once again be agents of change. Let's hope. The empire is crumbling. The nation state has failed. What's next? Will we be able to come together again and create new social structures that are sustainable and effective?
Sorry to be preachy .... just expressin myself.
Maybe there is a vacant home in Rubyskye's neighborhood and Libmom and family can plant some roots. I can see the two of you discussing the ways of the world.

They won't burn you at the stake in the county of Santa Cruz.
It's a diverse, open and tolerant community and if you're spiritually and energetically involved/oriented/directed/ (however you wanna say it) it can be a really good place if it suits the rest of you. It's pricey and one needs to be open and flexible when it comes to housing but it's do-able.
The natural energy of the Santa Cruz area is very powerful so if you're connected spiritually through nature, it's a very happening place. And Big Sur, less than two hours to the south, is the most magical place i have ever known.
As an example of the diversity and tolerance that i mentioned above, a few years ago i lived in a house built in the 70's by my "hippie"/artist landlord and his wife. They had a rather large piece of property that included their house, the house I lived in and a lot for an R.V. which, at that time, they were renting to a really nice Mormon couple with 1 child and another on the way. She was a stay-at-home Mom and he was a CHP officer. As is said, "It's all good"!

Come On! Are you serious? Hippie in Pico Rivera??
ALL my family still lives in Southern California and there is only one area I can think of that has a somewhat Peacenickish Artsy area left and that's Eagle Rock.
Are you joking?

I lived in South Gate. You should really consider being in a Gang to live there.
The homes are very old stucco, built in the 20's.
I saw alot of Liberals, not a living White person in sight though.

I made a boo- the homes in South Gate were built in the 20's to 40's.
I remember many were full of termites and roaches.
It has a big park with golfing. But the grass was not alive.
It looks down Tweedy Blvd., not to be in the State of California at all really.
I could not stand it. But is was real Liberal.

There is a huge Wiccan and Pagan community in Oregon.
You would love it. Very nice people. Wish I could afford Ashland
I think there might be Wiccans/Pagans in the Redwoods.
There's still a huge amount of Redwood Rainbows in Humboldt.
They had their annual gathering in Arcata, to the North East tip of California in Modoc County, close to South East Oregon last year or maybe it was 2 years ago now. I had too much bartered wine, I remember that!
