Fuel costs in the stratosphere
I paid $5.15 per gallon for diesel fuel yesterday morning in Atascadero, Ca (san luis obispo county). I am certain that it has jumped higher today and will continue to jump into the weekend as it always does before and during holiday weekends here.

It just will not quit, today gas went up another 6¢ to $4.359 for regular. I was lucky to get gas yesterday at $4.099.

Most of the stations around here are showing $4 or more for regular now. The exception is ARCO, which was selling it for $3.93 on my way home today.
I always said that when gas hit $4 a gallon I was going to start carpooling. Unfortunately, that's not feasible now since I start work at 6:30 a.m. However, I am thinking of taking the dedicated busway, even though it means I'd have to get up twenty minutes earlier (oh, the pain! Haha...).

I paid $4.17 for regular in Bakersfield today. Two weeks ago I paid $4.07 for premium. It cost me $65 to fill up my tank, luckily I work part-time for my dad so I get a gas credit card. I can't wait to be free of the shackles of a car with bad mileage when I move to San Francisco in August for college. Who needs a car when I get an unlimited bus pass from the school? Not to mention parking would be a nightmare. I'm feeling pretty lucky when I think about how my friends who're staying in Bakersfield for college will be driving 30-40 miles roundtrip for classes everyday. Ah, the wonders of sprawl...

Gas here in Tulare California...which is between Fresno and Bakersfield I paid $3.87 a gallon at the AM PM market. I was in LA California last week and it was just about the same there as it is here. Some gas I did see in LA was over $4;12 a gallon..Marleen

It's amazing how just in January people were posting gas prices at about $3.09 a gallon. Sounds like a bargain now...

To show the huge disparity in prices, how about this:
At my Shell station, regular was still selling at $3.99 two days ago. However, not even a mile away, at the 76 station, it was selling at $4.39!

Last night on the news, they were saying how Car dealerships can't keep the Hybrids on the lots . People are buying them without even a testdrive. Gas mileage for a Prius said 49mpg !
