In two days the price at my Shell station went from $4.05 to $4.19!!! Just up the street, Chevron is charging "only" $4.15. That's it, it's now time to start roller-blading to work!

How can it be that a gallon of regular can cost $4.07 one day and jump up to $4.23 two days later as it has here in Santa Cruz?
I haven't read this entire thread but what the hell? Who manipulates these prices and why isn't there a revolt?
How can people afford this? How can people who have to commute to average jobs afford this? It's outrageous.
Please, will someone who really understands this situation, please explain it to me?
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I am curious if there is anything that the average citizen can do to protest these outrageous prices. It's funny, I used to receive emails about everyone NOT gassing up on a certain day to really hit the gas stations. I haven't had one since the prices have gone buzzerk. Haven't received any petitions either. Haven't seen anyone out there picketing. Does everyone feel as helpless as I do?
I barely drive as it is because I don't want to waste my money on gas. It's not like I can cut back anymore. I don't know how the people that make minimum wage are doing it. CRAZY!
So, the question is does ANYONE know what we can do to lower prices?

I don't think that there is an answer to this. The oil industry has the developed/developing world by its proverbial balls. With the continued decrease in the value of the dollar coinciding with the continuing conflicts in the middle east, I doubt we're going to see any declines in the price at the pump any time soon. Your best bet around this is to drive less or get a vehicle that uses less fuel. The status quo for transportation in this country (if not the whole world) needs to change, or we're all going to literaly drive the economy into a depression.

I swore I was not going to post on this again----but----today $4.44 for 91. Have you noticed the price of food lately? I have a friend who works for a MAJOR grocery store chain. She changes the price of all store items. They go up every day. Even she can't believe it. She doesn't set the prices, she has a file program that dictates the prices. The truckers can't afford to deliver the food at lower prices. Why? You already know. The cost of fuel. All we can do is don't buy gas. Carpool, mass transit, ride a bike, get a segway, walk. Do anything you can to cut back on gas use. Remember the old days when they had gas wars. For those too young. One gas station would lower it's prices, then another. They would battle back and forth to get your business. I know, I'm wasting my breath. Too many other countries will bye it anyway. The next few years are going to be real interesting.

Here in Long Beach, yesterday at 10 a.m. it was $4.19 - at 2 p.m. it was $4.49. Yes, that's right a 30 cent hike in 4 hours.
