Just having to run a few errands now and then but Ventura gas is 4.15-4.59. Ouch!!! I used to be a true gas hog spending $800/wk on gas on a slow wk. I've moved closer to work and even though my rent is higher and my house is smaller I haven't filled my car since May 2nd and still have a little better than half a tank. At this rate I can buy the bigger house by the end of the year. Who knew? I got into the bad habits of driving everywhere while living on the east coast (Hot-lanta) where I had to drive an hour just to get from the grocery to the bank and another hour to get home. Urban sprawl sucks! The 5 acre yards are great; but, having to plan 4-6 hrs of drive time into my day just for simple errands, makes my 16,000 sq ft lot worth every penny for the ease of walking no more than 4-6 blocks for all my needs. Now if I just convince Ventura Cnty to put golf cart trails and a few over/under passes in higher traffic areas every where possible. I'd be more apt to venture outside my little 10 mile radius; kind of tough taking passengers on foot or bike to large social events. The only time I enjoyed travel expenses back east was in the quaint towns of Tyrone, Peachtree City, Brooks, Fayetteville and Woolsey. I could travel about ¾ of the county on my cart. Talk about meeting the community’s needs!

After seeing the price of diesel go down 10¢ last week to $5.099, I did not expect to see regular go up 15¢ overnight to $4.599. The highest grade is now $4.799 a gallon. Costco in Eureka is usually 10 to 15¢ less than the other stations. Last Monday it was $4.099 for regular when I filled up.

A week and a half ago, the Shell station nearby was $4.05. Then it went up to $4.19. Now it's $4.27! I have yet to fill up at these prices, and I'm really dreading it.

I drive to San Diego every weekend...at least for the last couple of weekends and next couple of months. My job gave me a raise so that has helped with Gas Prices. It doesnt help that I fill up in L.A. and fill up again in San Diego since both cities have high gas prices! oh well, I hope to get another raise in August.

I don't know how the stations are down there, but up here in Sonoma County the Shell stations are about the most expensive. But with prices being what they are, a difference of 10 cents a gallon means only a very slight difference in how much gas is going into your tank, compared to when you could buy gas for $1.50 a gallon. Our Arco stations are chronically jammed with motorists trying to find the lowest prices.

Thank you so much! It's been sort of a mixed blessing, because until recently I always drove home for lunch (it's thankfully only about three miles from my house to work), and now I'm having to eat lunch at work, which makes for a long day--and awfully glad to see my wife at the end of the day. At least with the bus I don't have to deal with the traffic and either parking up high in the parking garage or trying to avoid getting a parking ticket when I parallel park on the street. On the flip side, Santa Rosa has offered me and many other downtown workers a "Highway 101 Free Ride Program" that lets me ride the bus for free while the 101 widening project through the middle of town is getting close to completion.

Back fully on topic: regular unleaded is around $4.15 a gallon and up around here right now.

I had to put premium in my scooter yesterday for $4.50. Luckily, I can only put in about 1.75 gallons so this limits my fill ups to about $8. My wife and I also "scooterpool" to work a few days a week to help her with her office's lack of parking as well as cut back on gas costs. If we don't go out of town at all, we're probably only spending about $50 a month on gas. I can't even imagine what some of you are going through right now, paying in the hundreds of dollars every month for gas.

MakeHayNotBones is on a distinguished road
We seem to average .20 cents or more higher than the S.F. area.

We buy regular for our car, diesel for the truck, and hay for the horses. Ouch.
What this country needs is more soup kitchens and hay fields!
