Well, over the last few days, the price for 87 octane jumped from 2.939 to 3.019, then dropped back down to 2.939 again today at the local Arco.

Don't put too much into the gas prices. It's actually cheaper than you think. Believe it or not, you'll probably spend less for fuel per mile driven here than up there in the frozen Midwest.
I just came from an 11 month stay in the Midwest and at first thought gas was cheap. It didn't take long to figure out how much my fuel mileage suffered using GASAHOL! That's right. My fuel mileage dropped 30% overnight. Every trip back to the west coast where they sell real gas, my mileage jumped right back to where it was before. In winter, when it was insanely cold, I couldn't get 15mpg whereas my vehicle here gets a pretty consistent 29 mpg. My vehicle is 8 years old and is not a "flex-fuel" vehicle so it doesn't adapt as well as some newer vehicles but even so, many people who own newer vehicles were making the same complaint that their mileage went into the toilet as soon as they hit the Midwest. So, though I live in the SF Bay Area where the man on the news tells me the gas prices are higher than anywhere else in the nation, I found that it's still cheaper than the Midwest. Numbers and stats can be very misleading. I can buy my house in Houston, TX for 1/5 of what it costs here but my property tax would more than quadruple so after a few years I'd be out more than here. Here in the US we all have about the same standard of living for our given trade. When you find a place with low prices, you'll find low wages but overall it's all about the same. CA does have a better climate in most of the state though! ![]() |

$3.26 at Costco yesterday, that is the lowest for the county. Otherwise, it is $3.43 for regular at all the other stations and $3.69 for diesel.

Right now it's running between $3.65-$4.00/gallon here in San Francisco.
But I work up in Napa, and you can get it for $2.90-$3.00 at the Safeway station in American Canyon (next to Napa)... so I make sure to fill my tank there, whenever I pass through with less than a 1/4 tank. Smart idea, especially considering my 100-mile roundtrip commute. ![]() |
