I would like suggestions for a wonderful city with close proximity to trail riding at about 3000 foot elevation east of Sutter Creek to Sonora. I love wilderness, but also would like to access some city amenities. I'd like to have a modest home with a beautiful barn for all of my animals. Any ideas?

DMenscha sells real estate in the same area you are looking. He can give you some great information.

Some things to consider,
1. Can you turn a horse trailer around on your prospective homestead?
2. Is there shade?, foothill summers are hot, your critters will need shade.
3. Never have just one herd animal, two at the minimum. It is a sin and should be a crime to own just one herd animal, they all need a companion.
4. Shelter from rain and snow, they may never use it, but they should have it.
5. Rodent proof hay storage.

Arnold Rim Trail - ART is nearby me.

I actually think you might be happier on the Highway 108 corridor or the Highway 88 corridor given you want "city" amenities like those found in Sonora/Jackson. I don't serve either of those areas, but I could recommend a couple of people who do.

Thanks to SettingSun, for the recommendation though

Along the 88 or 108 corridor seems nice. I'm looking for my dream home near a community of people who enjoy animals and the outdoors.

I could spend up to one million dollars for a home and property, less would be better but would like the million to include the following features:

Acreage (3-10)
Access to riding trails
Good well and septic
Less than one hour or 60 minutes to a town or city
Good well, water access
no high-tension wires closeby
not high traffic road

House less than 2500 sq feet (2 bedroom, 2 bath)
Mother in law/caretaker housing
3 stall barn, hay storage, loft, tack room, warm wash (Barn Pros barn kit?)
Riding arena
Nice animal fencing
Pasture
craftsman/rustic
mud room
dog kennel

Any ideas and suggestions for an area in the Sierra foothills that would suit?

Lot of property like that near me. DMenscha has it right on the amenities here in Sonora/Columbia. I see a ranch of 400 acres in your future.

I could live in Columbia in a heartbeat. Horse optional. Really nice small town.

Mariposa County is a little further south and has what you're interested in. It's just a thought.

In those areas: At the one million price point you might have to settle for a 160 acre lot and a custom house with all of the above less than 10 miles from town.

The median home price in my area is $170K.
