“It was really about affordable housing,”
the cost of housing in the Dallas-Fort Worth area is about a third the cost of housing in Los Angeles County.
the company was likely also motivated by Texas’s lower taxes and a regulatory climate that’s seen as much more favorable to business. The $40 million incentive offered by the state probably didn’t hurt either.
Why Toyota is moving 3,000 jobs from California to Texas

Wow housing costs 1/3 the price of LA! Talk about being a mortgage slave!

Housing costs in Texas vs. California have never been discussed in this forum before, and I'm looking forward to learning a lot from this thread. Good job OP!

From the OPs article:

Despite the lure of low-cost housing, it’s unlikely that the majority of workers will follow Toyota to the new digs.

Who cares. Car manufacturing should be done elsewhere. CA is the high tech economy capital of the world

I always love it when an Ohioan gets in the middle of the shootin' war between Texas and California. So well informed. Kinda like the Donald.

No its not a factory thats moving, but a regional HQ. Not really important imo.

As far as factories, we most definitely need them.

Yeah, the brains of management know better than to move.

One thing I can see for myself online.... is the lovely 'AFFORDABLE' homes in Texas, including the beautiful Texas limestone ones and many brick ones , as well. I would say any worker who likes their job and pay would rather follow them, than live the struggle it must be to pay the mortgage in CA.

I recently thought of moving to CA, until I discovered the absolutely insane COL!

Now it will be either Texas[probably the beautiful hill country area, about 60 mi NW of San Antonio] or Boise,ID.

The homes may be affordable, but the mongo electric bills to cool them in the stifling summers are not.
