In the past when i would take the "smell" the roses route down to SoCal from NorCal...i would always Pass through Santa Barbara and the operative word was pass through Santa Barbara.....what Santa Barbara is famous for is being expensive with some really great "Downtown Shopping" and some "Fantastic" Resorts.....Since you are going to be in town for one day make sure to hit the "SANTA BARBARA MISSION" and do some HIKING in the Canyons and then hit the BEACHES...Santa Barbara is known as AMERICA and CALIFORNIA RIVIERA.....

Santa Barbara Zoo, the beach, Paseo Nuevo and La Cumbre Plaza regional open-air malls, Batty Batting Cages, Zodo's Bowling w/ arcade, Metro and El Camino Theater, Camino Real Marketplace strip mall, Santa Barbara Fair, Downtown shopping, Santa Barbara Paintball, tons of upscale stores to shop at, and Valley Drive-in theater in Lompoc are the biggest attractions in Santa Barbara area.
