Gangs in Idaho! I'm not surprised. Come on Americans, why are we on the run from these criminals?

In the Colorado/Denver Forum, I done a Thread on living in the Denver area....the good and the bad. We use to live in Greenwood Village before buying our current house in central Parker. We have been living here for the past 4 1/2 years, so we should know about "living" here. In the Thread, I talked about how the cost-of-living IS going up here (not as high as some parts of California...but, still "going up"), the weather, the people and the traffic. I actually had some people who live in the Denver metro area sort of "bash" me because of what I said about the weather.....snow (at times heavy), cold (sometimes really cold), lightning (sometimes very nasty), hail and thunderstorms (a lot of times, very nasty). They said in the Forum that the weather isn't that bad. Well, tell that to a CA resident that has never lived in snow/cold.
Anyway, after reading all the replies that I got, I simply decided, "heck with it, they will just find out for themselves when they live here!". I wasn't trying to stop anyone from moving here, I was just stating the truth about the weather here........and I got "hung" over it.
Also, some FYI: The wife and I moved out here from Southern Calif. (Costa Mesa) 4 1/2 years ago. Originally we are from Michigan (her) and Indiana (me) so we knew what Colorado weather was about. How much were we ready for the winter weather here? We bought winter parka's, over the Internet, while we were still living in Costa Mesa and brought them with us.

Yes, in certain areas of Idaho there are gangs. Caldwell being the most talked about one. Garden City, is another bad area. But there are also some very nice large safe areas. I have spent months on the Idaho form talking to the locals. So I have gotten a feel for the area. Yes, being there is the only way to be sure. We will visit before moving. I do read the Idaho Statesman on line.
We would most likely be looking at Boise Bench area, Kuna, Star, and eagle is the most desirable area I'm told. Will continue to do research and make a visit.

I remembered reading that thread of yours in the Colorado/Denver forum. I myself was also surprised at the tone the Denver residents took on for how you wrote about the realities of Colorado weather. At least you didn't try to "sugar coat" how the weather really can be over there. Even though I'm not moving to Colorado (or anywhere else, for that matter, anytime soon), I appreciate what you wrote regarding how the weather in Colorado can be.

Retirement in Lewiston
When you think of retirement you usually think Florida, or Arizona, but what about Lewiston,Idaho ? Yes, Lewiston Idaho!! With several golf courses, mild weather, fishing, the walking and biking paths, (and did I mention fishing?), the Lewis-Clark Valley is a place that many people have come to spend their retirement years.
Lewiston, Idaho and Clarkston, Washington is the home for four 18- hole golf courses and with the banana belt weather, there are very few days where you can't find a golfer on the course! The average temperature in the Winter is about 40 degrees, and the average summer day heats up to about 90. There is very little snow in the winter, mostly rain, and the average precipitation is 13 inches a year.. but don't expect any rain in July or August, it's usually very dry at that time.
Lewiston and Clarkston has a wonderful bike path built on the Snake River's edge. The views on the trail change from season to season, making each walk, jog, or biking outing unique. The path is patrolled regularly by the local police department on both sides of the river.
There is a lot of choices for housing for seniors. The average home price is around $160,000 with a large choice of home styles in every price range. Condo's have become popular as well as newer manufactured homes in 55+ communities. There are several condo's and town homes located by each of the golf courses, and many manufactured home parks to choose from. If a luxury home is more your style, we have plenty of those to offer as well.
Low crime rates, and easy commute, and affordable taxes are other reasons why seniors are relocating to valley as well. Property taxes are slightly lower on the Washington side of the river, and there is no state income taxes in Washington, vs. Idaho.
Quality of life is what you will get when deciding to retire in the valley. With it's climate, landscape, retail services, the small-town feel as well as health care facilities, and cultural and recreational activities, the Lewis-Clark Valley is a sure winner!

Stay in California!
Please Please Please do not move to Idaho. For god's sake, stay where you are! You see, the trend of Californians moving to Idaho will ultimately do exactly what you are trying to escape: the Californication of otherwise livable places. This is a trend that is going to have IRREVERSIBLE effects on the West. There is a reason that people are moving out of California: it is a hell hole. For the sake of your grandchildren and their grandchildren, leave a few areas of the planet without palm trees, boob jobs, BMWs, artificial tans, small dogs in purses, and Rogaine. PLEASE.
