Apparently there are clauses in this bill that could drop it down if the economy gets hurt by this, but still. Is your economy doing this well?

What do you Californians think about this?

Some of us think that one thread on the topic is enough. Two is two too many. And three is out of control.

I certainly can't speak for all Californians, but I am personally dying to hear from those who don't even live here about what they think will happen.

Hard to tell. It seems as if, at least job wise, there are many people still deeply affected by the 2008 recession.

Businesses with fewer than 26 employees would get an additional year to comply, and Brown and his successors could delay the increases by one year in the case of an economic downturn. Assuming no pauses, the minimum wage would increase each year based on inflation starting in 2024.

Well with median price of an existing, single-family detached California home of $446,460. Paying $15/hr equates to a whopping $31,000 annual income before taxes, that $15/hr. isn't going to be making any more home owners!

This is dumb. The argument is that a minimum wage raise will improve the economy because minimum wage workers will have more spending money. But, they aknowledge this will hurt the economy by pricing some workers out of jobs, so if it's TOO bad then they can stop it. It's like they're hoping to hit that perfect balance of making enough minimum wage workers happy that the laid off workers aren't noticed. Stupid politics.

Yeah because that always happens. I guarantee that if we go in a economic downturn the wage will not drop. CAN California afford it? For the most part IMO yes. The COL is relatively high. Most places (unless you're in a job that requires absolutely little to no thought or training) pay more than $15 a hour anyway.

The real question is if the job being done is worth $15 a hour?

What I can tell you is if wages go up, rent, food, normal every day costs of things will go up too

When I had my shop the lowest paid was a young kid getting $16.50 a hour. He was the kid of a buddy. But there was no favoritism. That same snot nosed kid is now a electrical engineer. I don't think I ever paid anyone minimum wage.
