Most cities are California are famous for being encircled by beautiful mountains all around it, which is the same with Athens, Greece (where I lived for 2.5 years)

I am curious, for anyone who is familiar with Athens,Greece, being surrounded by mountains, and water on the other side, which city in California most resembles Athens?

For reference, this is generally what Athens looks like

Reason I ask, I did a quick search to see what Riverside looks like and I was shocked by how much it looked like Athens. At least in one of the pictures (taken from a top mount rubidoux park?)

I haven't seen any cities in CA quite like that. Santa Barbara is built like an old Spanish town though. It's our American Riveria.

Arvin's a dead ringer.

Actually there is no place in the U.S. that looks like Athens. Not even close. Tijuana gets honorable mention though.

No place in the US looks like the built environment of Athens but Southern CA resembles the natural environment more so than anywhere else.

Sorry for all the smart*** responses above me.

The city that fits this description is San Francisco. "I am curious, for anyone who is familiar with Athens,Greece, being surrounded by mountains, and water on the other side, which city in California most resembles Athens?"

I googled some images, and I am not sure why they are called "stoner spots" but these views are pretty similar to what you posted. I am pretty sure you are not asking for architecture, but the mountains/water set-up

I would say that Mt. Davidson, Tank Hill, Hawk Hill and Sutro Peak will most recreate the feeling of overlooking Athens from the Parthenon.

Mt. Davidson is personally my favorite spot in San Francisco

LA for the geography and climate. Nowhere for the architecture, not even San Fran.

SF is surrounded by water on 3 sides, not mountains. It's a lot cooler and greener than Athens it appears too.

I think LA might be closest, the dry scrubby landscape around Athens looks like SoCal.

For those who don't know Athens, add that disclaimer.
SF does not resemble Athens in any way.
L.A. is closer, but so far off from an accurate comparison, that it's meaningless.
