most affordable rent in ca
Where is it most affordable to rent an apartment in California? Of course in a nice, safe place. What cost would that look like?

Affordable is a relative term... it really depends on the ratio to median rent vs. the median income...
I rent a small 2 bedroom 1 bath single family home to a family in the Bay Area for $725 a month... very affordable by Bay Area Standards, but I'm sure that are places much less in the far corners of the State.

I think 23 palms out in the desert east of LA is about the cheapest I've seen. Desert Trail newspaper: Deserttrail.com

You're probably a kind and generous person, but you do realize that you could be charging at least twice as much as that, don't you? I don't think I've seen a rent that low in the Bay Area since about the 1980s.

No kidding. That sounds so undermarket that the IRS would probably consider the difference imputed income to the renter.

Hard to say... I look at it as a benefit to have someone that takes care of the property and rent is ALWAYS paid on the first without question...
She is older, lives alone, gets along with everyone and never entertains...
Like I mentioned... the House is small, a little over 800 square feet on a 25 x 100 lot... but it is nice and clean...
I have other long term renters that rent 1200 Sq Feet, 3 bedroom homes on 50 x 100 lots for $1500
Turn overs cost both money and time and it is worth it to me to know I don't have to worry about my properties...

Many of my Rentals are located in Oakland... I live in East Oakland and I'm third generation Oakland... My Great Grandparents left San Francisco for Oakland 2 days after the 1906 Earthquake.
It's not an apartment... it's a small 4 room house... Livingroom, Kitchen and 2 Bedrooms.
All of my recent new residents are San Francisco Exiles that have crossed the Bridge to find affordable housing.
In fairness, I have also lost a few great tenants with school age children to Alameda... Parents have the added burden of finding the best school district for their children as well as affordable housing.
Rentals in Oakland neighborhoods with top performing schools are much higher than neighborhoods with mediocre schools
