Study finds that most people leave due to having low income. They can't afford to live here. So they move to cheaper states. Most who leave have household incomes of less than $50,000 and do not have a college education.

So much for the idea that the rich and productive are the ones who leave.

The site did not let me copy and paste so read the article here:

High Housing Costs Are Driving Californians Out in Droves - Curbed LA

And the LA Times said the same thing:

The state overall has been losing people to other parts of the country since the 1990s. A snapshot of more recent U.S. Census migration numbers shows that nearly three-quarters of those who have left California for other states since 2007 earn less than $50,000 a year.

Oh please. Who do they (and YOU) think they are fooling? I've read on this very forum that the rich and productive are abandoning the state in droves to illegals who are arriving in droves and taking over all the formerly wealthy ocean front neighborhoods from Oregon to Mexico. How silly to say otherwise!

I did what I could to give it a bump.

Maybe if you could amend the title to include something about the Donald it would take off?

The Californians I know through work and community that left did so to cash out...

Most had owned homes for years and were able to take their equity by moving.

A few did so to follow kids or be near grand kids...

I do anticipate having income much above the 50k level when and if I live my dream to move to the Golden State. But, my dream of owning a home there might be too far-fetched, from what I've read. That said, I have NO problem buying a home way away from everything, and working in the Big City (Los Angeles), during the week. It's just how I see things playing out.

But how ANYONE lives there, or even here in Alabama, on less than 50k blows my mind.

LA DAILY NEWS ARTICLE: Whose Leaving California? Not Who You Think!

http://http://www.dailynews.com/opin...k-thomas-elias

Quote:
That especially holds when some numbers appear to back up the untruth. In terms of people leaving California, there is such a number: California had a net population outflow to other states of 625,000 residents between 2007 and 2014. Newborn children and immigrants more than made up for that loss, so don’t expect the state to lose congressional or Electoral College clout after the next Census in 2020.

But the majority of those departing are not the extremely prosperous residents about whom we so often hear from folks described by Gov. Jerry Brown as California “declinists.”

Rather, of those who left during the latest years for which statistics exist, the vast majority earned less than $30,000 per year. A net total of 469,000 of those leaving possessed no college degree. Given the prevailing levels of rents and home prices in California, it’s easy to see their financial motive in leaving for far lower-priced states like Texas, Nevada, Oregon and Arizona.
And, if you honestly look at whose moving to Texas, Nevada and Arizona...it's people using Section 8 rental assistance, EBT, etc.
